Research comes in different shapes and sizes. Here are some of the types of research study I offer that are most often useful to start-ups and small businesses.
Discovery research
Welcome to your users! Discovery research helps you to refine your product-market fit and talk to users in a language that resonates
Where you’re at
You have an itching feeling that you don’t fully understand your users and what makes them tick. You’re worried.
Maybe you’re right at the start of your business journey, or you might have been around for a few years. But you don’t want to get by on assumptions any longer.
What I do
First I help you figure out what you need to know about your users. Then I work out the best research methods to do this. For example this might involve 15 interviews and a survey. It could be a diary study, or it could be spending several days observing your users at work.
I then run this research end-to-end, involving you every step of the way so that we can learn together.
Where you’ll be
You’ll have a deep understand of who your users are and what matters to them. You will have comprehensive documentation and inspiring artefacts that help this insight to live on in your organisation and inform your decision-making long term.
Usability testing
Find out what’s not working and fix it. Usability testing is the quickest way to find out why users are having problems with your product.
Where you’re at
You have your product or service and it’s working but you feel too close to it to know if it’s truly working for your users. You want to know whether they understand it and why they get stuck, churn or drop off.
What I do
With hundreds of hours of experience of usability testing, I can design and deliver testing sessions that will expose the most important corners of your product and help you see them through your users’ eyes.
Because user research should be a team sport, I will involve you and your team in every stage of the process. You will learn so much more this way!
Where you’ll be
You will know where and why your users get stuck on your highest priority user journeys. You will know what to do to solve the simple stuff and I can work with you to design solutions to the bigger issues.
Rapid iteration
Put your ideas to the test. Prototype and test with users as soon as possible to avoid wasting time on something that doesn’t meet their needs.
Where you’re at
You are building a new feature or taking a fresh look at an existing one. You might have several different ideas for how it could work, but you’re not sure which one will really resonate with your users and solve their problems.
What I do
I’ll help you to refine several different ideas. I will create prototypes for each idea and run activities with your users that test and stretch these ideas to their limits. I’ll then work with you to refine the most promising idea or ideas and keep testing until you’re confident of your next step.
Where you’ll be
You’ll know the strengths and weaknesses of your product ideas when they’re put into the hands of users. This knowledge will help you decide which direction to travel next.
